He has referred to this as winning the "ovarian lottery" - the luck of being born with certain advantages like being born in the United States, being male, white, intelligent, and healthy. 1 4 Buffett believes that these lucky circumstances at birth, which he had no control over, were a major determinant of his success in life and business. He acknowledges that his "primary skill of allocation of capital has worked well for him in the United States and in his lifetime", but that he wouldn't have been as successful in a different place or time. 4 Buffett explains the "ovarian lottery" concept using a hypothetical scenario - if you could determine the rules of the society you would be born into, but didn't know your specific circumstances, you would construct a system that rewards talent and effort but also takes care of those who didn't win the lottery at birth. 5Buffett has used the contrast between being born in the US versus Afghanistan to illustrate how his lucky circumstances enabled his success, while others in less fortunate situations would not be rewarded in the same way, despite having similar talents and skills. 1 4 Buffett believes that appreciating the role of luck and the contributions of others is a critical attribute for lasting business success and personal achievement. He feels those who are successful should acknowledge their good fortune and be willing to share more of their wealth.

When people like Buffet talk about luck, they are really expressing their gratitude that they have been fortunate enough to achieve what they have, they don’t actually believe in luck in an absolute sense. “Lucky “ is an attitude not something that actually happens. Ever heard of the line “ The harder I work the luckier I get “? It’s probably a bit too nuanced for someone like yourself. Keep making excuses for your own failures and keep projecting your pathetic attitude onto others and I guarantee you will never get lucky.
