You would be aware that Sydney gets 100% of its supplies from either the two Bayswater 500kV units (2 X Gen Tx and 2 X Transgrid 500kV sub bays with 500kV Aux Tx) and back up from the Tumut sub with similar arrangement.

In a state or worse blackout situation, restoration of the supplies can only come from Snowy or Queensland gas spinners (until they are banned or gas runs out despite having centuries worth still underground). And what Im getting at is due to the MASSIVE capacitance of said 500kV lines, to be able to energise them, the grid requires an ENORMOUS amount of spinning reserve present (look that one up eco zealots)! Basically, Snowy needs to be sync'd, Tumut supplies syn'c will little load and spinning reserves at Bayswater and Valves or Eraring to have a couple units with 1000MW of SPINNING RESERVE to pick up slack upon 500kV line energisation so the whole grid doest trip back off whilst it charges the lines like a huge capacitor!!

To summarise, Sydney will be without power for days until a handful of coal fired units are fires up and sync'd and Snowy has the same. Powering Sydney after a black even cannot be done by renewables or batteries.

Volts matter!! @Hittman was juicing trannies which suck juice on start up to establish their fields with iron losses etc. Think starting from lights in a car stuck in 3rd! Drop the clutch and it stalls, rev the engine and drop it slowly and it will get there.

Add in a little irony that Sydney the biggest proponents and voters for renewables and more importantly, Teal voters, have created an unstable grid that is much more like to fall over than it was, and will get their power back last after many days and only because of COAL!! Bwahahaha
