NT youth crimewave needs a long term plan.
she does not oppose the curfew, and neither do i. when things get so far out of hand things are dangerous to the whole town. imo the curfew and police action should have been done earlier. this approach is necessary as a circuit breaker.
but as in previous concerted police actions, the coppers fade away, called to other duties..... and the community is left to struggle on with the underlying problems unresolved. and so the cycle repeats.
but this isn't just in Alice. (LINK).
for example NSW Govt has organised a NRL crew of Aboriginal players to build a community program to bring Aboriginal kids into the club and divert them from the decades old crime wave. I don't know how far this program will extend, but it's gotta be better than throwing children in the bin where they almost always emerge hardened and prepared for better crimes with less chance of being caught.
