The burns trial web page was updated this week. Three new hospitals have commenced recruitment.
New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medicine is the first and only New York hospital to participate in the trial. Weill Cornell has New York’s only American Burn Association verified burn centre and treats roughly 5,000 patients each year. New York state population is ~ 20 million.
Emory University Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta is the first and only state of Georgia hospital in the trial. It is one of only two verified burns centres in Georgia and treats approximately 3,500 patients per year. The population of Georgia is ~11 million.
A third Indian hospital has now also commenced recruiting. The National Burns Centre (NBC) in Mumbai is one of the largest specialty burns hospitals in India. It specialises in severe burns cases – patients with >50% TBSA burns are transferred to NBC. The city of Mumbai has an estimated population of ~21 million.
This makes 27 hospitals currently recruiting for the trial, 3 of which are in India. Given the high populations of the districts that these latest hospitals are serving, hopefully the <30 patients still required for the burns trial will be quickly recruited.
