Well put, Masami. There is indeed a lot of green posturing on the federal government’s part, designed principally to cultivate indoctrinated young people and prevent the drift of Labor votes to the Greens. The most obvious example is the odious Environmental Defenders Office, supported with taxpayer funds to obviate, frustrate and delay development.
This government simply does not care about the costs which such posturing imposes on industry, or the damage it causes to economic performance more broadly. At the same time, however, it happily puts its hands out to receive the large taxation payments and huge royalties paid by mining companies, boasting that these are a sign of its superior economic management. Its hypocrisy has no bounds.
Madeleine King is a rare voice of reason in the Albanese government, prepared to speak the truth on these matters and to acknowledge that, were it not for the mining sector, Australia would be a far poorer country and government budgets would be in tatters.
