I once entertained the thought that licensing off some capability wouldn't be such a bad/negative thing.
However, if I'm a global mega billions buyer I'm going to either;
Pay premium $'s for something I can choose to build, license out, or both, at any time & at any price the maket will tolerate.
OR
Use an existing 3rd party licensing option, even an option that isn't my core business & I'm not currently interested in, as a negotiation point.
Go the premium route I say!
