Whether you are a "trader", "speculator" or "investor" depends on the nature of your activity.
A trader accounts for shares as a business, that is, revenue.
A speculator or investor accounts for shares as CGT.
If you buy and sell alot, especially on a short term basis, including up to six months, you are a trader.
If you do not buy and sell alot, you are not a trader.
If you do buy only a few share holdings during the year, even very speculative ones, you are not a trader.
If you hold most of your shares for over 12 months, you are not a trader.
