Is this because you think you / like your fake French friend - are going to bring reason to a group you clearly have no time for, or because you have nothing better to do or some other reason. you clearly have no sense of humour - if I’d wanted a straw poll I’d have set it up properly - but lack of humour is in addition to your complete inability to admit you were wrong about what my post actually said. so now you are trying another version of deflection firstly by suggesting I’ve corroded my credibility. How very odd for someone who has little interest in facts or truth, who apparently has no ability to understand what they are reading and no interest in owning up to a failure. I don’t think you are in a strong position to comment on credibility and your view on me has little impact given the way you carry on which brings us to the rest of your post. Anyone capable of reading beyond grade five level or who has a desire to put bias aside would be very clear about how I feel about both Netanyahu and about the violence and abuse. but you simply aren’t interested in reading anything properly. You are fixated, lack the intellectual flexibility to move beyond your bias and can’t back down from a position once you’ve adopted it what I find particularly interesting in your thought processes - and some others like you / is that you can’t just stick with the idea that the actions of the Israeli government are morally wrong (whichI believe) and ill judged (which I believe) and driven by zealotry (which I believe). Instead you have to make stuff up to justify yourself. I don’t. There is, for me, nothing incompatible about facing the facts of history and adopting the views I have about Israeli actions. nor is there anything incompatible about accepting that Israeli hospitals treat Gazans who need support, and that includes terrorists who have been captured. Or acknowledging that there are villages of Arabs that live side by side under no threat in Israel itself. Or any one of a number of facts There are many aspects of Israeli history that I find unpalatable, both in the lead up to the UN declaration and subsequently but that does not mean that I have to ignore terrorism perpetrated on Israelis from a succession of Palestinian and Arab zealots - or vice versa what you want to do however is pretend that facts are not so, that the only source of propaganda is the west and Israel and to dismiss anything that doesn’t support your story. that is actually intellectually and morally cowardly because it means you cannot stand in your pacifist space without making up a reason to stand where you do you also want to turn history into something viewed through a contemporary lens. You cannot do that. maybe you cannot understand that, however foolish it may seem now, 1947 and 1948 were very different times. You may wish to judge the decisions made then through that contemporary lens but to do so also shows a lack of intellectual flexibility, a lack of real empathy and a complete inability to understand history. you are stuck in your own paradigm. So whatever you you want to say to me will come out of that paradigm. Having already shown your inability to acknowledge when you are wrong, and to be uninterested in reading things for what they actually say, your views on what I may think or not think are able to be easily dismissed

@Parsifal ; re your post which included "... so let me get this right - you think hotcopper is an extreme right wing forum. But you post on it. Is this because you think you / like your fake French friend - are going to bring reason to a group you clearly have no time for, or because you have nothing better to do or some other reason. ..." Yet again your comments divert to a focus on yourself and to casting slurs on other posters. Hot Copper's Politics forum is for 'robust political debate ' - something I relish and especially when the views of others are at odds with my own. Debating others enables me to better understand issues and to become more aware of other perspectives. Re the paradigms etc you mentioned, I post on threads like this one due to my commitment to cherishing humanitarian values. I'll NOT ignore the plight of powerless people like those civilians in Gaza being slaughtered and tortured to death by what I assess to be a mega-maniacal genocidal regime that boasts the unequivocal backing / resourcing of the world's largest producer of WMDs / munitions.
