There was a report last night that he had broken up with a woman who had recently had a child. All the civilian victims were women (he killed a male security guard) and also attacked a baby. Whether rejection by a woman who subsequently had a child triggered the attack, perhaps someone familiar with his mental state might shed some light on in due course.
