kevjb - you are absolutely right.
Qld gov is desparate for CSG to go ahead (ie for the Federal review decision which is to be given on Friday next week) and appears quite willing to sacrifice almost anything (read UCG) to make sure that CSG goes ahead and Qld gov gets billions of dollars to support SE Qld infrastructure.
How far down the DERM line of command is the pressure to do nothing on UCG until CSG is approved go?
The guys collecting bore samples are probably doing their utmost to conduct a rigorous sampling regime, the pollution managers (interpret test results, report to senior management) will be doing same but be aware that a speedy decision is not needed at the moment), senior managers who report to executive who report to the minister are probably reading tealeaves and could always ask for further information and analysis (afterall 1+1 does not always add to 2 in a relativistic universe) if a decision was likely to be controversial.
I hope it doesn't end as Sophie's Choice - kill UCG to get CSG past the Greens (and failed One Nationer's).
