    We know all that.

The point about wind power is that it operates without feed-stock and the other obvious thing that you failed to mention is that it addresses the massive externality of carbon pollution.

If wind turbines are so pathetic and useless then why are they the fastest growing form of power generation?

Yes I do agree there are issues with integrating them into the grid. No one ever said weaning ourselves off fossil fuels was going to be a walk in the park.

You say there will be nil cost savings. I suspect people aren't building them like they are going out of fashion for "cost savings". If the externality of carbon pollution were adequately addressed then I believe we would find them to be a very cheap form of power.

Tell me, how do you measure the health of the planet against "cost savings"? If you want to be a hard-nosed accountant about this issue then by all means... you will need to adequately cost the oceans, the atmosphere, the ice sheets, the arable land and the planet's rich bio-diversity. Then talk to me about "cost savings" when islands are inundated, vast deserts are formed, crop yields are reduced and the extinctions are unstoppable.

We are effectively subsidising the fossil fuel industry by an unfathomable amount, simply by virtue of the fact that there is zero cost for fossil fuel power generators to treat the atmosphere like a sewer.

Footnote: I always find it very hard to believe that many others do not see this rather self-evident truth. Maybe it is a generational thing after all, as some here have suggested. I'm no spring chicken by the way, but not about to retire either. Or maybe its a Herald Sun readership thing. I do not regard that rag as a newspaper by the way. Happy days :-)
