lordspinalot - Fair point. In an ideal world, HotCopper would serve this purpose. And in that same (hypothetical) ideal world, social media would be both social and civil.
The vast, vast majority of participants in here generally act with utmost civility.
But from time to time, the cowardly keyboard warriors who make such a nuisance of themselves on social media find a platform on HotCopper to vent their spleens. I guess the choices we face are to either ignore them or call them out.
I prefer the latter. "Bad things happen when good people do nothing" is an old phrase but it resonates with me. Trouble is that these types of cowards can be quite brittle and thin-skinned (just like bullies) if challenged.
Luckily for me, I've been at a stage (since I was 15 years of age) where people I have no respect for calling me names simply doesn't bother me. I've been called quite unkind (but sometimes clever) names in at least 3 languages in recent years within the business sphere (HR would not have been happy). And don't get me started about names I've been called on sporting fields over the years.
Off topic I admit lordspinalot, but hopefully these comments are worth posting nonetheless.
