As his uncle's plane crashed into the sea & was never found it's pretty unlikely his body was eaten by cannibals.
If you read what he said it's entirely possible he was referring to the ability of search teams not being able to go into the area for fear of being eaten by cannibals. Not that his uncle was eaten by cannibals.
