I will be attending the Dawn Service at Currumbin on the Gold Coast.

I will be honouring the service of my great grandfather, who fought for the 2nd Scottish Horse in the Boer War in South Africa, he volunteered from South Australia as a Scottish descendent..

He came back to Australia and had a family. He later enlisted to fight in World War One in France with four of his brothers, he and three if them in the Australian Army and one in the New Zealand Army.

He lost one of his brothers and the rest of them survived.

My father served with the British Commonwealth Occupational Forces in Japan after the atomic bombs had been dropped.

I served for twenty years in the Royal Australian Navy.
