you can bad mouth BHP all you want about bad prior takeovers… the reality is the stock has outperformed the broader ASX benchmark since inception or on most general time series. So it’s been a good stock to own. Its legacy operations are that good, they can afford to make mistakes. Many blue chips do….
It’s 10% of the ASX simply because its operations are so good it generates so much cash flow and ultimately tax. It’s Australias number 1 tax payer, some years it pays more tax than our entire banking system combined….. brilliant Australian company that has made its shareholders very wealthy - including yours truly. In aggregate we now hold over 100,000 shares in this across all structures.
