Backyard/rooftop residential wind turbines are awesome.

1500W ones are pretty cheap and more than a few Aussies have installed them.

If you have spare capacity on your solar inverter you can plug them straight in.

I wouldn't be surprised to see that market pick up in windy areas as more people become aware of them.

I also know a guy nearby who has a water wheel on stream on his property which also gives a decent bit of power.

Still not sure what your point is though.
