He approved the mines and gave the miners a royalty holiday, built the rail lines to the ports and profited by the freight, built* the ports and the power stations and transmission lines to power the draglines. It all worked, could you imagine any state tackling such a project today?
Labor refuses to permit mines and would not lift a finger to develop the rail lines when they could have had a monopoly on the freight. South Australia has minerals including Olympic Dam but they aren't considered mining friendly so little happens.
