Having someone with certain expertise in an area doesn't mean that is what they will do. He has expertise in a number of fields. So why put a metals trader as CEO if there is no metal to trade? So obviously they thought he had other things to offer [right or wrong] but questions could be easily asked is if management is right for where they are at? Same could be asked for Tanbreez and your CEO and any company for that matter.
If anything it may actually give confidence that such an expert as you note had decided in the end its not viable or reasonable to do so. so. If it was a good thing to do and worthwhile then I bet they would have chosen to do so.
