The threat doesn't constitute a world wide threat to our way of life. Islamic extremists hold power in only one significant country (Iran). They've held power there for over 30 years without being able to extend their sphere. The Nazis expanded within 7 years of gaining power. Islamic extremists would like to be the threat you claim they are: they don't have the numbers or political power to project their aims. Australia was a liberal democracy the day I was born and will be a liberal democracy the day I die.
