Author Lisa Pelling seems to be a reasonably impartial observer as to the feeling in the local community and much of their angst seems to result from their image that they are about to get another LKAB. A huge open pit that has forced the town to be moved. Fly in Fly Out workers. Minimal contribution or involvement in the local community. etc etc
And worse still, its coming from an Australian company. Not sure that Talga can do much about it at this, but I'm sure that they understand the issues and can/will allay all suspicions well before expansions beyond stage 1 are floated.Lisa Pelling ([email protected]) is a political scientist and head of the Stockholm-based think tank Arena Idé.
