The reason why these reports can be worth reading is the analysts often get direct access to management where they get to ask them lots of questions. All sorts of things that can’t be said in an ASX release end up in a random analyst report.
None of this means you should believe everything you read in these reports, but they can be a useful source of information that is hard-to-impossible to find anywhere else. I would also add that they can be a very quick way to get an overview of a new company and a useful jump point for a deep dive into the fundamentals.
