from what I've seen (had to look about this myself) it generally shoots up to near the offer price. everyone (traders) riding the rise
some people elect to sell here, others to wait for funds.
if a buyout goes ahead the shares will be replaced with funds in your account.
we won't hear about a buyout until negotiations are complete however leaky ships may trigger suspicions of a buyout, can't recall what stocks I saw this on but the chatter prior to buyout is suss of one
