My son loved the the things we did when I had him over on weekends, I would pick him up and first stop was the library. Early on I would get books to read to him and in time he would read for himself and became a avid book reader
We did stuff in the gardens go for bush walks, explore, plants, animals, forage, catch yabbies using what ever we had on hand, go to art galleries, museums ect. Never of very rarely had takeaways, I would prepare food at home, but also take him to cafe's and restaurants.
He loved all that and plans to give his son similar experience and I'll take the opportunity to join them when I can.
My son use to be a chef so part of the reason I have a fruit and veg garden is for him and I look forward to having the grandson pick fresh fruit and veg from garden. That is some thing most kids don't get to experience these days
