Just what the hell do you think the stock market is then?
It serves two purposes. The primary purpose of the market is for a company to be able to raise funds to expand or improve their business without having to borrow the money, ie no repayments or interest!
The secondary purpose is for the people that buy the stock to get a share in the profits of that company (if it succeeds) in one of two ways - dividends or trading the stock for a higher price.
It's THAT simple!
