'' If we ever have a tech issue (happens) then cash is the only backup''

maybe that's not in fact 100% true

whilst it would be very disruptive and I think disastrous - there is indeed a 'backup' (or there was)

I only twigged to it a few months back in a cons here in France, which has a large cash economy.

I was telling someone about an outage several years ago - power outage from memory - would have been in Tassie I think - (it was a many days outage, it was probably the time where my personal outage went almost 2 weeks)

anyway - it wasn't all that long back ??? maybe 10 years - but a long long long long time after we had the kind of POS that we have now -- and what was done was -

for fuel, sales stopped, But, what happened then, was that in the next day or two - the banks delivered those old tech slide thingies that we had in the early days of bankcard

now - ok that was a workaround ------------------ (I can't recall how they could pump fuel but not power the POS - memory is hazy on it)

BUT, what I hadn't ever thought of before was ---------- that the banks actually had those devices - ready to deploy.

    they had them

so, they had a backup system - ready to go.

The question is --------- do they still? Do they have those devices all over the country for all accounts - or all accounts of a certain size -
