    Locking in ?

    Lol.

Just because they are making sure that there will be gas available, which is a cleaner fuel than coal btw , that doesn't mean they will use it.

Unlike the incompetent COALition that did nothing during it's 9 years and watched as gas prices went through the roof, federal Labor is planning for the future.

The COALition refused to give the energy industry any direction and consequently they didn't invest in the energy transition thus leaving us with a bunch of aging run down coal fired power stations and very very expensive electricity bills.

l seem to recall all the RWNJ trolls on here whinging about gas availability on the east coast. Now Labor is addressing the issue and they are still whinging . Once again Labor is cleaning up the COALition's mess.

Labor is being proactive by making sure we have plenty of options. You seem to forget that Labor has a target of 83% clean energy grid by 2030. That hasn't changed. They also have a net zero emissions target by 2050. More renewables and maybe a bit of gas means less coal . The dirtiest of all .

What they are doing is making sure that as the old coal clunkers break/shut down, we will have plenty of other generation options should we need them.

Having a reliable energy system is priority # 1.

That gas supply means that industries such as fertilizer and plastics can rest easy until other technologies such as green hydrogen catch up.

The renewable industry is growing at a fast pace and will mostly pick up the slack but, just in case, we'll have other options available . That's what a sensible, forward thinking government does.

lt's just like house insurance. You don't expect your house to burn down every year but you still have insurance just in case.

    Same principle.
