No renewable sector has succeeded without huge Government intervention.
Renewables are not alone in this. There are many industries dependent on government subsidy. Think for example of the fossil fuel industry in Australia. From a document on the Parliament web site:
in 2020-21, Australian Federal and state governments provided a total of $10.3 billion worth of spending and tax breaks to assist fossil fuel industries.
So it would seem the fossil fuel industry is not viable either without government intervention.
