Here is another correlation. The world was never able to support a population of over 1 billion people, and for most of the 10,000 years the global population was under 200 million. The industrial revolution enabled people in many countries to transition from a life of poverty and subsistence agriculture (except some of the poor buggers in third world countries) to one where cheap, high density power enabled them to leverage their time. This allowed humanity to flourish, people could start dedicating time to the pursuit of medicine, agriculture developments and science, which was the catalyst for a population explosion. Without this revolution 6 out of every 7 people alive today would not exist. So who wants to put their hand up to be one of the 6?
