I dont know if that's correct, it probably could have supported 1 billion people, its just ~95% (just a rough guess) was concentrated in a very small area (South East Asia, some of Europe) - Not much in North America, South America, Africa, Australia. So, I mean, it probably could have supported 1 billion people.

Completely agree, the industrial revolution and the utilisation of fuels such as coal, oil, and gas allowed humanity to prosper and launch us into a new era of living. That doesn't negate that the burning of those fuels added trillions of excess CO2 into the atmosphere. CO2 (among other greenhouse gasses) has a warming affect on the atmosphere by trapping long wave radiation.
