@logco, most governments don't even reveal investments in core public infrastructure or purchase of military hardware on their balance sheets. They aren't wasteful spending of the kind which vanishes into the hands of developers and indeed they become essential public assets which become the heart and soul of communities and entire states.
Examples include Victoria's synchrotron, our desalination plant and the Westgate Bridge.
