Regarding drop outs and problems with ADSL at home... Do you have an alarm?
One common thing I have found with ADSL is where houses have an alarm system... Installers often hook them into the phone line... Causes ADSL to intermittantly drop out, freeze, and noise on the phone line...
If you've got an alarm... Check for a phone line running into the main alarm box... (Usually located in a wardrobe or cupboard...)
