Considering it was Yanukovych's poor decisions and actions, one after the other, leading him to eventually flee to Russia that lead to Putin's unjust and unprovoked war on Ukraine the reality is the complete opposite of your opinion.
Ukraine didn't "lose" Crimea, Putin sent Russian armed forces onto Ukrainian territory to occupy it. Another point where you description simply does not match the reality of the situation.
What sacrifices Ukraine are prepared to make in defence against Putin's unjust and unprovoked war against them is entirely up to Ukraine to decide. Ukraine's choice is something you feel they are not entitled to which would be the height of hypocrisy considering you live in a safe, free and democratic Western society that you wish to deny others.
The tragedy in this is the sacrifices of Ukrainians would not be needed if Putin had not chosen war. You correctly say that war is not the answer yet it was the immediate decision Putin made to go to war once his political control over Ukraine was lost.
Putin chose war, you can try to use as much language as you like that deflects or minimises Putin's culpability for his war of choice, but the fact of the matter is this is a war of choice by the fascist Russian dictator.
