“Majority ownership” does not necessarily mean what you imply, it depends on the specific terms in the JV agreement, as to whether the “majority owner” has specific rights, as well as what happens if they were to (or would want to) be taken over by another entity.
Your assertion as to what would happen if a new owner of AGY was to “simply stop funding the JV” is pure unfounded guesswork.
