As you suggest - we have become a quarry and a haven for baristas and public servants
Under the globalist guidelines, corporations usually go where it is cheapest to manufacture thus maximizing profits. I'm afraid that despite the wishful thinking on the government's behalf and the associated bullshit and political puff - we are not a manufacturing country any longer - we are primarily a consumer society that spends money it doesn't have, to buy things we don't need to impress people we don't like.
The current government is trying to close down the few primary things we produce
