And what's fundamentally wrong, illogical or hard to understand about that ? Putin's War has evolved as Wars often do. You'd prefer Ukraine didn't/couldn't defend itself ?
As far as I know there were no Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory prior to Putin's invasion.
