with regard to being a 4yo, i agree normally he probably shouldnt run over the tough 3200m, but this year is unique - the quality of stayer in OZ is poor. shocking is an exception, and the imports are again quality. and with an expected dead/slow surface to race on, it will hardly be hard on his legs.
re: the cox run - agreed he went hard for a long time and deserved to tire - his quality showed as he was still able to win comfortably. only real quality does that.
he's good enough, and can win it, given the chance.
