That's not completely accurate in that we watch US politics as something to just pass out time.
The US plays a pivotal role in world order, democracy and capitalism. We still need them to act in a manner that honours and is congruent to the alliance. Under Trump all bets are off as he has no personal honour or appreciation of historic legacy. He sided against US interests with Russia and Saudi. He would do it again and NATO countries all know it!
