New extraction route chosen
The lithium is not to be extracted from the mountain in front of the Traudi Stollen, which was once built at a cost of 70 million schillings from taxpayers' money, but opposite it near the wind turbine with a connection to the provincial road.
New routes are being examined
After several delays, partly due to documents being submitted too late, the official assessment procedure for the environmental impact assessment is still underway at the state level. The project has now been scaled down, said Albert Kreiner, Head of Department 7 at the Province of Carinthia: "The fact that all the routes for the electricity and gas supply have been redesigned means that they now have to be reassessed for their environmental impact."
Wanke still believes it is possible to start the lithium project on site in 2025 - if everything goes according to plan.
