I can see two possible reasons for the equity proportion.
1. To fund the stage two expansion now, along with stage one rather than building stage two later. That would be at a cost of around US$4mill. The banks might only be funding stage one. I don't see any reason why the banks wouldn't want to fund stage two as well but there may be some benefit from bringing in a strategic investor that the company is talking to.
2. To buy an equity position in the green ammonia project rather than the phosphate and Minbos might use part of that to build stage two.
