Netanyahu's Regime chose to drown Gaza in shelling from tanks and cannons and for good measure even deployed missiles.

Instead of terminating Hamas, more than seven months of plastering Gaza with US resourced WMDs Netanyahu's Regime has thus far killed 36,000 Palestinian civilians and mutilated another 80,000 of them.

Just how many of the hostages taken by Hamas remain alive as a result of that approach remains to be seen - currently estimates seem to be that about eighty to one hundred of the remaining 140 may still be alive.
