From my understanding it's because China controls, or partly controls that mine.
The more you read about niobium, you ask yourself why isn't it used more? It seems like a miracle product.. a very small quality can strengthen steel to the point of making a car hundreds of kilograms lighter and imagine the benefits of that in building and industrial construction.
Dont forget there has been early trials using it for battery technology that can make charging many multiple times faster than what we know now.
i think a western source of niobium will open it up and increase its use worldwide.
