Rare earths are the flavour of the month for investors and were recently blamed on sparking trade tensions between Asian economic superpowers Japan and China.

Despite the name, they are not scarce as far as minerals go, but companies with exposure to the sector have soared in value.

Some are calling the sharp rise a price bubble, and warnings are emerging that the bubble is going to burst as governments move to shore-up supplies and new supply comes on stream globally.
