The chief problem that the US has (& also Aus) is that the UN decided (incl USA & Aus) that Taiwan was part of China and the One China policy was instituted and Taiwan was expelled from the UN.
I have said ad nauseam that if the US (and Aus behind Uncle Sams swallowtailed coat want to support Taiwanese independence then the proper thing to do is to reverse the UN 1973 decision of One China and conversely rise a motion for Taiwanese independence. Otherwise its all hot air/propaganda.
This Ukrainian war complicates the US /China relationship and Taiwan apart, there are other more serious geopolitical issues facing the US by Russia & China 'no limits" deal, IMO.
