Vittangi Anode Project Expansion: Interim Scoping Study paves way to scale

For me, the most important take way from this announcement is that it counters one of the major objections floated by the anti mine lobby group.

They argue Talga has plans for 4 mines and from an environmental perspective that should be looked at as a group and not allow us to be hoodwinked by authorising an initial sore which is guaranteed to infect into a major wound. Lets stop the sore now and avoid the wound.

The lower court looked at this argument and dismissed it. The High Court might have a different view.

Perhaps Talga received a whisper and has moved to counter that argument with the decision to go down rather than out.

Pick the thickest, richest part of that giant circular graphite seam and follow it down, rather than start new mines at the second, third, fourth best. These extra rewards could outweigh the extra costs on underground mining.

After all, this is what LKAB has done and this is what a gold miner would do. MT cut his teeth as a gold miner.
