The quote comes directly from the BHP annual report on page 25. If BHP are poorly informed about their own operations and intentions then where can anyone source well informed information about BHP and their plans? They clearly say they won't be 'making any significant investments in Queensland'. They don't list exceptions based on the quality or the type of coal that a mine contains, they just won't be making any significant investments which the assets of Anglo American would be classified as. Happy to be corrected if there have subsequently been official statements from BHP about this policy being scrapped but is anyone able to reference any statements from BHP that contradict this?
It's still an if as to whether Anglo American will actually list their Queensland mines and even if they do it's unlikely that anything would be settled until Q1 2025 at the earliest given the length of time these processes take. From the information available it's unlikely that BHP would be in competition should WHC pursue these mines which might be unlikely given the close timing to their mine purchases this year.
