    If you are innocent and have nothing to hide there is nothing to fear about testifying and you would not need to plead the 5th

    The 5th allows for some one to not incriminate them selves, while in a criminal case you can't draw inference on some one taking the 5th. It's obvious they have some thing to hide if they take the 5th
