    it’s not benign - it’s a process. if you have been strangled a few times by an angry man you can live with the regret of ever having had anything to do with them or you find a way to come to terms with it. Buddhists call it non attachment. I call it acceptance. In trauma terms it probably has another name.

    your way is your way but I had to find peace with my past and I have except to the extent it has made me intolerant of abuse. That’s not regret however - that is realising that despite a preference for trusting people not all can be trusted
