CMM and EMR both did consols on their way to mining, for some stocks its just part of the journey of raising enough capital to get towards building a mine.

CAI also did a consolidation and went much higher than the pre-consol price on their way to mining. That is somewhat of a failed project but that is outside the debate about the consol.

BOE have done a consolidation in the last couple years and gone a lot higher. Again on the back of a "real" project.

Plenty of examples where it wasn't a death sentence.

IMO the typical case when it really hurts is the stocks that are sub 1c when they consolidate. Because it increases liquidity by generating more price points. For example if a 0.5c stock does a 10 for 1 to 5c, it can now move 2% at a time instead of 20% which gives more ability for people to transact and potentially sell something they were stuck in.

If we consolidate from 3.3 to 33c it essentially only becomes you can trade at half points. Ala 32.5c where now retail wouldn't trade at 3.25c. But it's not a big reduction in friction vs current so I don't see it having an impact in and of itself. Moving the company forward will dictate price not the consol.
