@Goblin; until the Coalition drove Australian car manufacturers out of Australia I used to buy only Australian made cars and I wopuld still do so taody if I was able to.

These included a 1960 MarkII Zephyr in which I clocked up 280,000 miles, a Valiant SW which I owned from 1972 until 1995 and which was still going strong at 430,000 kms and a 2003 Camry V6 which was faultless when I sold it for a great price at 260,000kms.

Teslas are made in China and my brother's experience with the one he bought five years ago has been very positive. They're everywhere!

In contrast; my sister's husband bought a 2015 Mercedes bi-turbo V8 to tow a boat - the $50,000 engine died at just over 80,000kms and they sold it off for spare parts. So much for German products, hey.

But what about American ones ... virtually unsaleable second-hand Jeeps for example [with the exception perhaps of Wranglers]. Gas-guzzling Chrysler V8s which have become lawn ornaments. And those SUVs mechanics just love to service and to repair.

In the 1960s we were told that anything Made in Japan or in Taiwan was rubbish, Toyota proved that wrong. With the advent of KIA and Hyundai we were told that Korean cars were rubbish, now they're as common as flies on our roads.

Apple iPhones are Made in China, our Trina solar panels were Made in China and so too our Sungrow inverter - all of ours are alive and well after almost a decade of service for each of them!
