Broad picture > I think there is a place for ETFs, Managed Funds, LICs and direct shares in a super portfolio or regular investments. My philosophy > Never under-estimate what the market is telling you. Don't re-invent the wheel. Study who is successful and then cherry pick their ideas, and learn along the way. Knowing when to sell requires much more discipline than buying. Still learning. That said, my investments gravitate around the Mid Cap / Small Cap sector. Have zero direct shares in the ASX20. Any money here is in a passive index fund or ETF. No point in paying for active management IMO. However I'm 100% willing to pay fees to active managers for out-performance in the Mid Cap and Small / Micro Cap space. Below are some fund managers that fit into that category for me:Eley Griffiths > Solid team working with Ben Griffiths. 3 funds. Good long term performance in the Emerging and Small Companies space. Just launched a new Mid Cap / Small Cap fund. Check the vid.Auscap - Mid Cap specialist. Made a lot of money thanks to these guys. Tim Carleton leads this team. Check out their webinars.L1 Capita l > Another solid team. Great stock pickers. Invested in LSF and the International Fund via super. Regal > Love him or hate him, Phil King is a market animal. And his team ain't bad either. But it's results that count. Invested in RF1 and their Aust Long / Short Fund (which is true to label). Plus I own RPL. They continue to out-perform.HMC > Emerged as a leader in the REIT and alternate assets space. No office exposure. These guys have pulled off some amazing deals and continue to grow. DYOR. And thanks to Auscap for the research lead.Wilson Asset Management > A suite of reliable LICs. However more so for increasing levels of fully franked income than capital growth.Schroders Private Equity Fund - This is my largest super holding at an individual fund level. Its hard to find an asset class that doesn't correlate to market gyrations. These guys have performed very well. Once again DYOR. More to discuss. But that's enough for starters.
